Antigua

Antigua and Barbuda are a pair of islands situated in the Caribbean, Antigua is the larger of the two and boasts the capital city St Johns. The capital is the only city to be found on the island of Antigua and features a shopping haven with a large array of merchants offering everything from holiday souvenirs to duty-free goods.   The most popular reason for holidaying in Antigua and Barbuda is the refreshing island culture and beautiful beach retreats and just off the coast there are a plethora of multi-coloured reefs full of dazzling under-water marine life. These captivating reefs can be reached directly from the beaches although to visit the best of the best, divers are advised to use the diving boats to take you to the more secluded spots. For those who prefer to stay on board the boat, there a lots of sailing opportunities that will take you around a network of spectacular coves and natural harbours, where pictures are encouraged.   The smaller island of Barbuda is largely made up of two limestone slabs, and is circled by miles of stunning sandy beaches. On the North West side of the island is a shallow lagoon, home to a large colourful bird colony, while to the east Atlantic side there are lots of picturesque cliffs, coral rocks and reefs. The only town to be found on the island is Codrington, and it’s here you’ll find the majority of the islands population. There is few in the way of tourist amenities, however the atmosphere is warm and welcoming and you’ll leave the town feeling content.   If you are looking for a tranquil beach holiday this year, then these quaint pair of islands should be at the top of anyone’s must see destination list.
